Preventing bottom side placement of package symbol

archive
archive over 18 years ago

I have package symbol that I want to prevent from being placed on the bottom side of a PCB.

The ideal solution would be that I get some kind of warning when I try to place the symbol on the bottom side, but still have the option to override the warning in the rare case that I would like to place it on the bottom.

Is it possible to do that?

If you assign a PACKAGE_HEIGHT_MAX property to the symbols placebound, you can then put a placebound shape on the bottom of the board with a PACKAGE_HEIGHT_MIN property. if the value of PACKAGE_HEIGHT_MAX for the component exceeds the value of PACKAGE_HEIGHT_MIN for the board, a DRC error will be generated.

Another method is the ALT_SYMBOLS_HARD property. See the property reference manual

Where would one find the "property reference manual" ?

We just purchased Cadence, our IT guys have yet to load it so I'm seeking any manuals.

    Appreciate any help.
