Padstack questions

I have created a catalog of my parts in Orcad and translated it into Allegro. I have deleted the plane and in2 layers and am ready to update my padstacks and save them into a padstack library. This is where I have a couple of questions.

When I edit a padstack and am in the Padstack Designer section;

1) Under the Parameters tab in the Drill/Slot symbol section do I need to enter something into the Figure and Characters areas? In the example of creating Padstacks it shows selecting the shape (for example rectangle) and an "a" in the character field. What exactly is this used for?

2) Under the Layers tab where you define your padstack information what is the filmmask top and bottom for? Thanks

Sandy

    Hi Sandy,

    1. It is used for creating a drill layer that contains different symbols representing each drill size/type, normally this is not used for fabrication, here it is typical to use the Excellon drill files. You can make the PCB Editor auto generate different drill figures for each drill be using Manufacutre, NC, Drill Customization and pressing Auto generate symbols. Most people just send the Excellon files generated in Manufacture, NC, NC Drill - the drill figures are however good to get a visual view of the different drills on the pcb

    2. Filmmask top and bottom are reserved for extra information that you could use, e.g., you could reserve it for glue, gold or whatever you may need.

    I hope this helps.
