Grounding mounting holes

archive

I have a board that I currently have two mounting holes on. The engineer wants to add two more and tie them to ground. Is there a way to do this on the PCB? Thanks

Sandy

Ideally you should add them in the circuit / netlist and forward annotate them into the design.

Allegro does have the option to add / modify parts and nets on the fly using Logic -> Part Logic and Logic -> Net Logic.

If I added them on the fly would there be any issues forward and back annotating? I know Pads didn't like it when you did that and Orcad would strip the connections out.

You could also create the padstack with mounting hole requirements and add the hole as a large via.

I do not tend to use "on the fly" I would think that this could cause issues. If you do not wish to change the front end logic it is probably better to make them as Trykon suggests and use a large via.

    Hah! Mounting holes and GND...

Got mounting holes? Copper surrounding pads top/bottom? Pull some copper off the pads and tie them to GND. 3-4 spokes should do, and use good size (>.02") GND vias.

    Good day,
    Mitch
