Orcad to Allegro quick fix?

archive
archive over 17 years ago

I have a customer who is currently using Orcad CIS and Orcad layout. He plans to migrate to Allegro but we need to get this board out ASAP. I’m currently running Orcad CIS and Allegro (15.51). I know nothing about Orcad Layout footprints and board files.

He has a schematic already drawn in Orcad CIS which contains his Orcad Layout footprint names. Can I take his schematic and change the footprint names to my Allegro footprint names and generate a netlist that will import into Allegro?

    Yes.
You can keep existing OrCad footprint names, create a new property for all components such as "Allegro_FP" for the Allegro Footprints.
Enter "Allegro_FP" into the combined property string field in the PCB Editor Create Netlist form.

Just changing the Orcad footprint name to the Allegro footprint name wouldn't work?

Sure it'll work. Adding another field will simply allow you to keep the OrCad FP name for reference.

I'd suggest to annotate in 2 stages:
    1. Create netlist files
    2. Create netlist files and Create or Update PCB Editor Board

Stage 1 will isolate any issues that need to be addressed with the OrCad Schematic symbols (missing pin numbers, duplicate pin names, etc.). Stage 2 will isolate schematic symbol to footprint mismatches.

    Hi.

When doing thenetlist for Allegro You have a line stating PCB Footprints, You need to change the line to point to the new properties You created with the new footprints names in.

    Rgds.

    Hi Padmaster,

Don't know where you are with this, but I've converted an Orcad Layout database to Allegro, if it helps. I can find the converter if necessary. :)

    Let me know.
