Component location within Capture

archive
archive over 17 years ago

Having used OrCAD Capture for years I've knowm the coordinate data from layout is stored in the schematic symbol for ECO updating. Now that we've switched to Allegro Editor I've noticed that when the netlist is generated parts don't get placed in the layout according to those coordinates. What am I missing?

    Hi,
Component locations are not stored in Capture for the Capture Allegro flow.
Components have to be placed in Allegro. During an ECO the parts can be automatically updated when the new netlist is
read in. New components will have to be placed.

However there is a little trick. You can export the centroids from OrCAD (schematic) into a text editor and generate a placement file that Allegro can read in. It only takes a couple of minutes to do the whole thing from schematic to placement.

But as BillZ says, there is no automatic placement from schematic.
