Guidelines required to proceed....

Hi Folks, We have recently purchased Allegro Ver 16,earlier to this we were using Pads 2005 spac2. Now,we are trying to convert all the design file from Pads to Allegro...we are following couple of steps to convert all the design as below, 1) First Converting the existing Pads Layout to Allegro database. 2) Extracting the footprint library into seperate folder. 3) Modifying the existing schematic against the latest version of Pcb. 4) Assigning the footprints into the modified schematic and compiling it to the Allegro database. 5) we had problem converting the schematic, since some problem in the flash existing after conversion from Pads in the dra files, removed those flashes and updated,we could able to convert the schematic now, special thanks to Mr mitch for helping me out in this issuse.. 6) Since the design is four layer,we were trying to copy all the existing constraints settings availabe after conversion from Pads to Allegro into the new Allegro database, but then it seems the settings aren't mapped..We don't see any constraint settings available after conversion. Is there any way to extract all the constraints after converting from Pads to Allegro? So the settings can be copied into the new Allegro design.. Suggestions, insights and advises are appreciated.. Thanks & Best Regards, Ramesh

Item #6 - Constraint settings ; 4 layer PCB design

One suggestion would be to open the PADS database (in PADS), and check what constraints were there. I would venture to guess there WEREN'T many. When you open PADS you might find things are very simplistic. Simply note what setting there were in PADS and duplicate the constraints in you Allegro board file. You might even make the design better if you understand good manufacturing constraints. (e.g. I've often found the PADS designs to be WAY TOO generic for my taste, and often find the clearances are too conservative, but that's just me).

    Good luck and good day.
    Mitch

    Hi Mitch,

Thats not a bad idea to note the setttings from Pads and copy To Allegro, the views you have on the Pads generic way of settings,is very true, you can refine that settings much better in Allegro..

    Thanks & Best Regards,

    Ramesh
