Improving Alegro Refresh Speed?

When running Alegro PCB editor the amount of time to refresh the screen and regenerate pours is very slow. Just to slide over a via or move a component with dynamic shapes enabled can take over 30 seconds to regenerate and refresh. I prefer not to disable the dynamic shapes as I sometimes am shoving vias or moving components in order to improve the copper pours and would like to see the results.

Typical boards I am working on will have 10-20 layers with 6-8 layers of flooded planes plus outer layers flooded with planes.
 
My system I am running Allegro on is a P4 3.2GHz with 504M RAM.
I believe I have onboard graphics on my motherboard.
 
What is the best way to speed up the Alegro performance?
 
Increase amount of RAM to_______?
 
or install a Video card with ______RAM?
 
Any thoughts?

    I would suggest reviewing your enviroment variables. Are you running across a network? Where are your log files written too?
    Do you have them written to a specific directory? If your log files are written out on a network performance issues can be
    experianced. Also do you have autosave set? How often does it save how many copies and where are the files written?
    There are a lot of factors that can affect system performance. You can list and review your enviroment variables by goign to Setup>User Prefernces and selecting List All. YOu can print and review these settings. Also review where your home directory is located.
