Update padstack

archive
archive over 17 years ago

i have created a symbol (.dra) with pin pad assigned already. Now i want to change my pin pad size. How can i do that?

The method i used is to use Pad Designer (or use Tool->padstack->modify library padstack) to modify the padstack accordingly. This will update the library padstack. The thing is i can't seem to see this padstack update in the symbol file (.dra) after running the "refresh" command. The viewlog give a warning that my padstack (e.g pad70.pad) cannot be loaded.

However, if i goes to my board layout design (.brd) and use "refresh", i noticed the padstack was updated when i try to see the padstack again (using ->modify design padstack).

I quite confused on what is the proper procedure to update/modify an existing padstack so that it will reflect in my symbol file(.dra) as well as the board file(.brd)

Thanks.

    Hi wizlogix,

I think it is because your padpaths are not set in user preferences.

Go to Setup, User prefernces, Design_paths, and set the padpath to where you keep your library padstack files.
You can set up multiple paths depending on how you want to organize your libraries/padstacks.

This also applies to the psmpath for the dra/psm libraries.

    Hope this helps.

    Alan

    Hi Alan

I have checked my pad and psm design path, they should be correct.

Have anyone else have encountered this before?

Like Alan (kaplanet) says....it's in the setup of your pad path... Also, check to see where the pad (which directory) is being created. The padstack editor typically places the pad in the last opened directory.

Hello wizlogix, after updating padstacks using Tool->padstack->modify design padstack, Click on update to design located at
File-> update to design. It will update the pads in .dra file. Hope it will help you.
