Route Editor

Dear all,

Iam using the Route editor for the firs time and going for autorouting in that.

My problem is
In electrical spreadshet, I defined Buses like DATABUS_0 (for data signals 0 to 7 , DM and DS#). Similarly created buses for other signals also and then created Layer sets and assigned that to respective buses.

For example, for the class DATABUS_0, i've defined layerset using signal layers 3 and 4.But when I take this board file into route editor, nowhere that layerset contraint is seen. so again i defined layer sets in route editor. but even now,its not working. when i give "autoroute" command, the signals of DATABUS_0 were routed in
Signal layers 1 and 2.

Please guide me in this.

    Alot of this depends on the level of the router you have. It sounds like you need the ADV option for the router.
    Contact your VAR and they can confirm this.

    I'll check with VAR.
    But i checked with "route automatic" option in pcb editor itself.
    But the same thing happens here. Routing not happens in the requested layer.
    So i doubt whether iam doing that layer set option in correct way.
    Can you please explain how to do this?

  • As he says, you have to have an upgraded option for ROUTE_BY_LAYER which is what you are looking for. Specctra will ignore you (with a pop-up box) and will route however you want.

    But, there is a 'cheat' method. If have fanned out your signals, you can select just these nets and turn off all other layers for route and Specctra will just use the selected layers. Then fix those nets and Specctra won't rip them up once you turn on all other layers for route.

  •  We have the same problem on one board and we use the XL option.

    We have routed some boards before with layersets and that works correctly.

    What could it be then?
