A Question Regarding Properties fixed within Board Partitioning

archive
archive over 17 years ago

Hi all,
I faced a problem where even I unfix anything inside the board but still encountered error message said that component is in fixed property, can't be moved. Later on, i was told by my colleague this is due to the board being partitioned before and this certain comp was fixed during that partition, so i have to partition the board which contains this particular fixed component,  then unfix it. Then, sync back with main board with refreshing the partition, import  the partition and only then this particular component will be allowed to move.
I will like to know is it the bug or common practise when come to this problem. Please advise. Thanks.

We just had this problem. I don't know if it is common practice. We have just started using partitioning. We did a design with no problems. However on a recent design - and yes I think in this design some of the parts were fixed. If you do a show element on the part - it is a fixed_private. As to whether it is a bug or not - I can not say yet - unless I can reproduce it to send into Cadence.

I have also had this problem. I submitted a ticket to Cadence and they seemed to have heard about this before, but don't know what exactly is causing it. Their workaround was to delete all the partitions in the board, make a new partition that encloses the whole board, export the partition, import the partition, and the fixed property is gone. This workaround worked for me. I also was unable to duplicate this problem on a test board.
