Want to create your PSpice models? Use Model Editor

You can create accurate models for off-the-shelf devices by converting information from the device manufacturer’s datasheet into simulation model parameter values.

Using Model Editor, you can create or modify template-based simulator models for multiple device types like a diode, bipolar transistor, junction FET, OpAmp, MOSFET, and so on. While doing the template-based model creation, you need to specify different parameter values of the device as given in its datasheet. For example, if you want to create a diode model, you need to have values of parameters like saturation current, junction capacitance, reverse breakdown voltage, and more. All these values can be obtained from the device manufacturer’s datasheet.

You can even add smoke parameters for the device to perform smoke analysis on any device/circuit. Smoke parameters are the maximum operating condition parameters of the device.

The following snapshot shows the Simulation Parameters table for a diode in Model Editor (based on the template)

Model Editor also allows you to create models by using Device Characteristic curves where you need to  generate the parameter graphs using parameter relation tables. For example, in the case of a diode, for forward voltage, you should use the V-I table, for reverse leakage, the Vrev-Irev table, and so on.

the following snapshot shows characteristic curves for a diode model in Model Editor (based on the device characteristic curve)

You can also configure these characteristic curves for different temperatures.

Model Editor also allows you to associate symbols for the simulator models that could not be recognized automatically or update existing symbols for the simulator models using Model Import Wizard.

Have you ever used PSpice Model Editor? If not, try it out and enjoy creating your device models. Let us know your experience of using the PSpice Model Editor.
