How to simulation programmable devices using the OrCAD PSpice Designer Plus

Hai Community,

I have schematic design containing programmable devices such as 16 bit microcontroller, memory unit and other devices such as GPRS etc.

I want to simulate this schematic design, as microcontroller is programmable device and the behavior of microcontroller depends on the program which is been dumped to it, how to simulate these type of devices using the OrCAD PSpice Designer Plus software.

Regards,

Rohit Rohan

What type of simulation do you wish to do with your schematic design? I would suggest to check the samples provided for digital simulation available at <installation directory>\tools\pspice\capture_samples\digsim. This will give a fair idea about dealing with digital devices in PSpice simulation

    Dear TechiEE12,

I am currently working on a schematic design involving the Atmel AT89S52 Microcontroller along with several ports. As part of the design, I am looking to program the microcontroller to make an LED connected to Port P1.1 blink for 5 seconds ON and 5 seconds OFF.

Given that this is a basic example, I plan to extend my design to include a 16-bit microcontroller along with other components like GPRS, ADC, DAC, etc. However, I am aware that the behavior of programmable devices, such as microcontrollers, is dependent on the code uploaded to them, typically written in Assembly Language or Embedded C. As such, I believe there may not be static SPICE models available for such programmable devices, but I would appreciate your confirmation or correction on this matter.

Additionally, I have noticed that OrCAD PSpice Designer includes a feature called the DMI (Device Model Interface) template. Could you kindly clarify whether this feature can assist in simulating the behavior of programmable devices, or if there are alternative methods to achieve this in PSpice?

I look forward to your insights.

    Best regards,
    Rohit

PSpice is primarily for Analog and mixed signal simulations. Your understanding is correct it does not support any programmable code dependent simulation for microcontrollers.
