Include geometry in a 3D road file

Alda
Alda over 9 years ago
I need to include a Racing Track Kerb into a 3D flat road or another 3D road that has part of it flat.   If you have a script/tool to do it and you can share it, let me know.   Any ideas on how to do it are welcome
Thanks
Juan

what about using cosin/tools to create an rgr-file (which in turn can be exported to an obj or shl if really needed)? cosin/tools has a lot of predefined/parametrisable single obstacles, see attached screenshot.

    Thanks for the answer
Can the cosin/tools read a geometry  (.shl or /xmt_txt) and create a 3D rgr file automatically?  or requires a manual definition of the points and how they get connected?
    Regards
    Juan

    .shl and .obj: yes
    .xmt_txt: currently no

In  order to create an rgr-file, you will only have to specify the (rectangular) x/y patch extension and the rgr (equally spaced) grid resolution. Anything else is done automatically.

Important to mention: cosin/tools requires an FTire license (which I guess you have as MSC employee)

    Thanks,
Does it mean that I will have to specify the size of the elements based on the geometry of the Kerb or will it define smaller triangular elements automatically and will only have to define the road extension?

The original road will be resampled in order to generate the regular grid mesh. So, the size of the given triangles is irrelevant.

One of the benefits of the rgr format is that efficiency of evaluation is not downgraded with increasing resolution. Just select grid line distance small enough for your needs. For all tire models I know 5mm (say) is more than enough. BTW: point contact models do not suit for curb simulations anyway.
