Why can't I check the box 'shift gears' in a full vehicle analysis: acceleration with sedan_FWD?

My settings for the full vehicle analysis (acceleration):
end time: 25
number of steps: 5000
simulation mode: interactive
road data file :mdids://acar_shared/roads.tbl/2d_flat.rdf
steering input: straight line
initial velocity: 5 km/hr
start time: 2
open-loop throttle
final throttle: 70
duration of step: 5
gear position: 1
quasi-static straight-line setup [checked]
create analysis log file [checked]

I use the 2016 version of Adams Car and the provided sedan_FWD.asy without changes.
I can't check the box 'shift gears' in the settings of the acceleration simulation and if I plot the gear over time afterwards it stays constant (1 in this case).
However if I plot e.g. the longitudinal velocity of the chassis over time, the graph shows plateaus as if there was no acceleration for a few time steps. Also the engine_rpm gets smaller during those timesteps.
Can anyone explain to me what is happening there?

Could it be so that it is using an automatic transmission?
Open the assembly, select the powertrain subsystem from the drop-down in the treeview and "Adjust - > Powertrain Properties" to check this.
