Question about Octree refinement in scFLOW?

Sunil Vytla
Sunil Vytla 9 months ago

While defining octree it is recommended to use detailed setting to set mesh resolution for volumes/surfaces, Is there any additional way to adjust (refine/coarsen) the octree manually after generating an initial octree (without having a physical volume defined/created)? For example If I want to refine the mesh in the wake of an object, is it necessary for me to create a volume covering the wake to refine the mesh in that region?

    Hi Sunil,

Effectively controlling the mesh is important and refinement can be adjusted based on octree operation.
At least you may have different way to control it:

    • use of numerical region
      • this is similar to create a physical volume but it is only effective to define mesh refinement and does not over constraint mesh generation
      • this numerical region is then accessible as target volume for refinement in classic octree parameter

    • use of octree selection based on surface/level of refinement
      1. octree can be displayed based on selected surface
      2. displayed octree can be propagated into specific direction +X in this case
      3. use of recursive refinement to reach certain level/target size

Hope this is useful information for your simulation

    regards

    Laurent

Thank you Laurent for your detailed reply. Between these two approaches I will be able to control my mesh refinements effectively.
