Node merge issue MSC Apex

Filippo Tuzzi

Hi everyone,
I’d like to ask for some information about the node merge command in MSC Apex. The issue I’m encountering occurs when I divide my symmetric body along its symmetry axes and create a shell mesh on one side, then mirror the mesh to the other side. When I try to connect the nodes between the two parts using node merge, no connection is established.
Does anyone know what could be causing this problem?
Thanks in advance for your support!

Filippo Tuzzi The "Node Merge" tool in MSC Apex functions only when merging an orphan mesh. To proceed, export the mesh as a BDF file, re-import it into the database, and then perform the Node Merge operation. This approach should help with merging the nodes.

Rohit, thank you very much for your reply. It actually works when I follow your instructions! However, I’m now wondering whether this is the correct way to proceed... Do you happen to have any advice? As I mentioned, my goal is to mesh only one portion of the entire component since it’s symmetric, in order to save time.

If your model is symmetric, then you can use the symmetric boundary condition by just meshing half of the part to save time, provided you are solving SOL101
