Uniform height in multi-layer deposition

Kamar bouzgarou
Kamar bouzgarou over 1 year ago

Hello,

I am working on multi-layer deposition, and I am facing an issue: the size (or height) of the layers is not uniform, even though the distance between the paths is constant.
I am attaching a photo that shows the difference between the first and the second layer.

Has anyone experienced this issue before? If so, how did you solve it?

Thank you in advance for your feedback

kamar.

Hello Kamar, the reason might be related to set generation. Did you create sets before starting the simulation? If yes, how did the sets look like? Did they represent the activation height correctly?

    Hi Kamar,

it's possible to use a ded process with a non-constant layer high. So if you define your part as shown in the picture, the layer highs will be different. If you want to use a uniform high, please make a different mesh with a constant layer high (please choose a whole divider of the layer height for the edge length if you use Simufact Welding to generate the part).

And please do a layer assignment, otherwise all layers will be active all the time which leads to wrong results.

Yes, I created the sets as shown in this picture, and they follow the same definition. If there is another way to fix or define the activation height, I would be glad to know it.

    Hi JL,

In my case, I have a wall and I want to build it with 3 uniform layers, but I always face the problem of non-uniform layer height. Which parameter should I adjust in Simufact Welding to ensure that the layers have a uniform height?

    thank you.

The activation height is defined by your element sets and the activation box of your heat source (which is again based on position and dimension). If your element set for the first layer is only defined up to a height of 2mm, it should not be possible for the elements above that to be activated in the first welding loadcase. Could you check the position of the heat source? If you can share your model, you can also send it to support@simufact.de Then I can have a look at it.
