Double ellipsoid goldak model in Simufact welding DED (WAAM)

Hello all,

I am trying to simulate a Wire Arc Additive manufacturing of a 11*11*2" plate to look in to the residual stresses across the entire geometry.

I have the process parameters for the movement do I also need to input the heat source parameters by physically measuring them of a single weld bead? Doesn't the software calculate the heat source based on the process parameters and Rosenthal?

Thanks,

Vignesh.

    Hi Vignesh,

yes you need to define the dimension of heat source based on measurement.

Simufact Welding cannot calculate it only based on process parameter.

    Regards

    Hi Vignesh,

for  WAAM processes, you can also use the track width and high as a reference for the size of the heat source. Sometimes it's more comfortable to use a cylindrical heat source instead of the double ellipsoid as the cylindrical shape matches the track size better.
