Sigrity – Tip of the week: How to get the faster simulation results in PowerSI Model Extraction workflow

Depending on the simulation options and the layout, the PowerSI simulation times can be reduced to large extent.

Here are few tips to follow to achieve the optimal simulation time and not sacrifice the accuracy of the result.

  1. Disable unnecessary power and ground nets. Nets that contain plane shapes require most of the simulation time in meshing. Removing the nets that you are not extracting can help.

  1. In the Net Manager, disable the Keep shape enabled when the net is disabled option. If a power net is needed, make it fully enabled.

  1. When extracting power and its associated ground nets, you can cut the ground net outside of the PDN cavity. However, do not cut the power plane that need to be extracted.

  1. As advanced option to modify the layout, if you have a through-hole via design with many ground planes, but relatively few power planes, you can delete the intermediate ground planes that are not adjacent to a power plane. However, you must also keep the covering ground planes on both top and bottom of the stack up.

  1. Disable unnecessary signal nets
