How to view Insertion loss and Return loss parameters from S-parameter models.

SimTech
SimTech over 3 years ago

Insertion loss and Return loss are widely used terms in the field of electro-magnetics. These parameters plays an important role in designing and development of high-speed systems.

Insertion loss is the amount of energy that a signal loses as it travels along the transmission line. Return loss is the amount of energy returned/reflected back to source because of a discontinuity in a transmission line.

You can view the Insertion loss and Return loss from S-parameter models using Sigrity PowerSI tool.

After loading the S-parameter models in Network Display window of Sigrity PowerSI, Click Channel Filter icon as shown below. (or) RMB click on S0 – SIMULATION and select Channel Filter.

By default, Return loss curves are displayed.

Now, Check ‘Insertion Loss’ option and uncheck ‘Return Loss’ option in Channel Filter window to view Insertion loss results.
