Sigrity – Tip of the week: Creation of layer Stackup in XcitePI tool

There are two primary flows that are used to create layer Stackup in XcitePI:

  1. GDS: GDS contains no information on layer sequence and mapping. In this flow, it requires a *.map file where you will define the layer sequence and mapping information while, at the same time, the layer’s thickness and material properties will come from the technology file (*.ict/*.iRCX).

  2. LEF/DEF: LEF/DEF contains not only the routing design but also the layer names and sequence. This flow requires only the technology file (*.ict/*.iRCX) for the layer’s thickness and material properties, while no *.map file will be needed. XcitePI can import stack-up information from the *.ict/*.iRCX file even from an encrypted *.ict file. If there are both *.ict/*.iRCX and *.map files, the layer sequence, and name in *.ict/*.iRCX will dominate more than those in the *.map file.
