I've have downloaded and installed ORCAD 16.6 Lite but I get the following error when I start a PSPICE simulation:
"ERROR(15053): Can not initialize PSpice UI"
Does anyone know why this happens and how to solve it?
I believe you are trying to run PSpice simulation from Capture. Can you try running PSpice from Start menu first and then again try starting PSpice simulation?
In reply to psps:
Couple of things you could try...
a) Please check you Path variable does not exceed 2048 - see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2685893
b) If you had this problem after running installer (other than Cadence installer) - you may want to reboot your machine and check if problem goes away. Some installers incorrectly change the windows Path to non-expandable which causes issues as CDSROOT variable stops expanding in Path variable. Windows OS corrects this error on reboot automatically.
One way to check if the problems are being caused from above issues is to open a command window (cmd.exe), run capture.exe from it and see if you are able to invoke the tool.
In reply to paragc:
How to "run capture.exe from the command window"?
Thank you very much.
I open the command window (cmd.exe), run capture.exe from it and the tool got invoked, but the problem still exist.
Also try invoking PSpice using same method and then try running simulation from Capture.
I see the same problem. I did an uninstall and reinstalled the software again, but that did not help. I tried the steps mentioned above, but that did not help (invoking from CMD, etc).
Were you able to resolve the problem?
In reply to skoul:
Same problem here.
I work on win XP 32 bit.
In reply to Euler78:
I've got the same issue.
Built a simple AC-circuit, simulated, changed the phase shifts, and BAM - encountered this same error that you guys have/had.

Getting that error popup that can be seen in my image.
In reply to camata:
Can you try invoking PSpice directly from start menu and see if that comes up? This would give us some clue about the issue at your end, is it design specific or a generic one?
Just in case you get same problem on invoking the PSpice from start menu also, can you try renaming the %HOME%/CDSSETUP directory and then try invoking PSpice from start menu.
Hope this helps.
In reply to alokt:
I have the same issue under Windows XP SP3 and I find out that I can't invoke pspice from the start menu. You rename %HOME%/CDSSETUP to what ? I found the variable in the windows system variables but also in some Orcad ini files too. Orcad was installed in a virtual partition D:\ and the %HOME%/CDSSETUP points to the right place that is D:\Windows Section\OrCAD_16.6_Lite which is the installation folder I choose when installing Orcad so everything seems to be correct for me and there is only one user account on my computer.
I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it in the default directory C:\OrCAD\OrCAD_16.6_Lite\ and it is the same problem
OrCAD Capture CIS Lite -> no problem Magnetic Parts Editor -> no problem Model Editor -> error message: This application has quit unexpectedly. To help Cadence detect and analyse the problem archive the current project...Simulation Manager -> no problemStimulus Editor -> error message: This application has quit unexpectedly. To help Cadence detect and analyse the problem archive the current project...PSpice Advanced Analysis Lite -> no problemPSpice AD Lite -> nothing happen !
Any ideas !
Thank you, bye.
In reply to agrobinzon:
Rename %HOME%/cdssetup folder to anything, that won't matter. Goal is to remove "cdssetup" folder from %HOME%, so that a new one gets created on invocation.
