Firefox on Linux

Hey new users,

A small percentage of you are Firefox on Linux users and we have become aware of performance problems on this combination, although these are not exclusive to this site.

So I did some research on the subject and sure enough, found many articles on the issues of FF/Linux.  I will list a bunch that I found, but note the first one in particular.  It points out a FF network setting that may be the easiest way to see if you can get better performance.

Slow browser activity could be a sign that you need laptop repairs done! Whether your laptop fan is running overtime to compensate or your laptop battery burns out fast, listen to the signals your computer is sending you and get it repaired!
  1. Type about:config in the address bar.
  2. Type IPv6 in the filter box.
  3. Double click network.dns.disableIPv6 to set the value to true

  • BTW, as some of these articles point out, there are also issues with javascript and CSS on the FF/Linux combination.  Not sure how much us this we can deal with but will be keeping on our list of issues for the site.
