reading the outputfile of pspice

Hi all,

i'm using pspice quite some time and now we want to run it through an optimizer(this means many runs with different input values).

This program has to read out the output results to make a nice plot of it.

Is there a way to get all the output data out of the binary .dat outputfile, without using pspice.

Thank you

  • As far as I am aware, the DAT file format is proprietary so you won't be able to get at the data legally. You could try saving the data in CSDF format, you can set this in the Simulation Profile, Data Collection tab. You will then need to unravel the file format but, at least, the file is text.

Since there is an Advanced Optimiser in the Advanced Analysis option, it might be more beneficial to purchase the option and have the benefit of an Optimisation process designed for the specific purpose of optimising componnet values both to "any" value and "prefered" values.

  • I was afraid that that would be the case. The reason I don't want to use the advanced optimizer, is that our company has bought a much advanced optimizer in which you can combine a lot more programs and that has a much more advanced optimizer.

It is strange that Cadence refuses to open up his format, while other programs with binary files provide an api or scripting alternative.
