Which OS to use

I have been trying to install RH on my laptop, but somehow it doesn't have driver and support for my Internal HDD and DVD-ROM. I am hoping to use my laptop as client machine. Please advice me if any other OS will run cadence 6.1. I saw a few tutorials of installing cadence on ubuntu 10.04 ( hxxp://getglitched.com/?page_id=143 ), but my college's network administrator won't provide support if go for any OS other than RH :( . Hence if any of you have solution to my problem, please teach me. I am ready to install it myself but would require your advice for safe installation. I am Hoping to learn from you. Animesh (PS: I am using Dell Vostro 1014. IF you need any other inputs, please do prompt me)
  • Only RHEL (4,5) and SLES (10,11) are officially supported with, say, IC614 so one of these would be your best bet.  I've heard that CentOS is essentially the same as RedHat, but if you are having issues with RH then CentOS might be the same?  I've also heard of Scientific Linux being used and Ubuntu being tried, but I thought there were issues with the latter and neither are supported officially. If you are using an older version of IC61x than IC614 then you might want to visit the Cadence Online Support page and look at Resources -> Computing Platforms -> Supported Platform Matrix for Cadence Applications
