Win XP 64 bit and OrCAD 16.6

Hi,

I've just been given a computer at work for use with OrCAD 16.6 (PSpice in particular). The OS is Win XP 64 bit (XP Pro x64 V2003 SP2).

Is this a complete non-starter?! I've read that OrCAD does not support XP 64.

I'd be grateful if someone could advise me whether I need to reinstall with XP 32 bit.

Thank you,

Nick

  • Yes, for Windows XP you need to install 32bit OS, or if feasible, you may want to consider Windows 7, 64bit.

  • Strange but true. Windows XP 64-bit is not a supported evnironment for the Cadence SPB / OrCAD tools and they do not work worth a light within it. You need to get to a 32-bit XP environment or use Vista, or 7, for 64-bit, they work just fine.
  •  I've found that OrCAD and PSpice appear to run fine on my XP 64 bit PC.

I created a simple RLC circuit and ran an AC analysis.

I understand that XP 64 is not supported though, and I may find features that don't work in XP 64, in which case I'll ask the computer department to install XP 32.

    Regards,

    Nick
