Virtuoso Video Diary: Bridging Virtuoso and Mixed-Signal Simulation Tools Using CLIPS

25 May 2018 • 2 minute read

Do you often face a problem while switching the digital representation of an IP to its corresponding mixed-signal representation to verify your designs? How easy do you think your life would be if you could bring the config views into the mixed-signal and command-line setup? And wouldn’t it be convenient if the netlists and configurations created in this new setup are supported by Spectre® AMS Designer?

You would be happy to know that Cadence has come up with Command-Line IP Selector (CLIPS) support that acts as a bridge between Virtuoso—a UI-based, analog, and mixed-signal design environment—and other command-line, digital, and mixed-signal simulation tools and flows that use a text-based setup. You can use CLIPS to import an AMS IP into an existing digital-centric verification setup.

CLIPS reads the mixed-signal command files, identifies the required AMS IP modules, uses Virtuoso ADE setup files to netlist the required modules, and pulls the AMS IP out of the Virtuoso environment. All the necessary files are extracted and packaged, as required for a mixed-signal SoC command-line verification run. For this, it provides both GUI-based and command-line use models, which are flexible and fit into the existing design flow methodology. The CLIPS setup can be saved and rerun as a batch process.
