Virtuoso Video Diary: Incremental Simulations with Enhanced Reference Histories and New Merge Histories Feature

Have you been in a situation in Virtuoso® ADE Assembler where:

  • You have results in an interactive history, but they do not cover all sweeps/corners? And, to cover all sweeps/corners, you need to run all the simulations again as you are not able to use the previous results?
  • For your design verification, you have results for different sweeps and corners in different histories. But, you want to know how to combine them in a single "Golden Results" history?
  • You have failed points in your simulation. And, now you want to change the setup and run only the failing points with a modified setup and merge the results with the points that are already complete?
  • You have the setup and the results in different histories, and you wonder how to merge the two?

Gone are the days of exporting results from multiple interactive runs and combining them into Excel spreadsheets for analysis. The new Reference Histories and Merge Histories flows available from IC6.1.8/ICADVM20.1 ISR14 address all these concerns.

Reference Histories

You can set one or more histories as the reference history. Results from the specified histories are reused in the next simulation run. In the Reference Histories flow:

  • A simulation is run for any missing points and failed points in the reference histories. This saves time and resources from running simulations for points that were run successfully in a reference history.

  • In case the same sweep or corner is referenced in more than one reference history, results from the first history (by order in the UI) are considered.
  • Only points of the active setup are considered.
  • Reference histories are not considered if there are any changes in the outputs setup.

You are just a click away from learning the exciting enhancements in the Reference History flow, Click to watch the video on “Reference History flow in Virtuoso ADE Assembler”; or search for it on the Cadence Learning and Support Portal.

Merge Histories

Merge Histories is an innovative feature that helps designers stitch the simulation results and test the setup from two or more histories into one history item without running any simulations.

History merging consists of the following:

  • Setup merge. The Run Preview toolbar allows you to do further modifications in the setup.
  • Simulation results merge (same as the reference history).

The resulting ‘merged’ history is identical to any other ‘normal’ history.

The Run Preview feature provides the ability to visualize what will be merged. You can enable or disable points to be merged. Any newly added sweeps/corners are also shown. The existing results from the histories are merged and the simulation is run for any added sweep point or corner.

To know more about this feature, Click here to watch the video “Merge History flow in Virtuoso ADE Assembler” or search for it on the Cadence Learning and Support Portal.
