Virtuosity: Concurrently Editing a Hierarchical Cellview

15 Apr 2020 • 2 minute read

Concurrent Layout Editing of Hierarchical Subcell Virtuosity Blog

We live in a world where the idea of usability is to make products easy to use, things easily accessible, and visually appealing. It's our constant endeavor to improve the usability of our products. Watch out this space for our posts every month on usability enhancements in Virtuoso.

Can I Concurrently Edit a Hierarchical Cellview?

Yes, you can. Concurrent Layout Editing (CLE) lets you divide a single cellview into design partitions without worrying about how hierarchical blocks are placed. The tool enables multiple users to edit these design partitions at the same time. The key objective is to help you achieve a quick turnaround time, irrespective of how your design is structured.

What Should I Do to Concurrently Edit a Hierarchical Subcell?

You don’t have to do anything special. Just go ahead and create the design partitions, generate the design partition views, and then Edit In Place (EIP) into the design partition view. When you do this:

  • The hierarchical design partition views are automatically generated.
  • EIP establishes a parent-child relationship between the top design partition view (parent) and the corresponding hierarchical design partition views (child).
  • Any changes made to the hierarchical design partition are saved in the hierarchical design partition view and are automatically available in the top design partition view. This is tracked using Layout Configuration.

Concurrent EIP of Hierarchical Subcell

  • The edit scope is retained because the area partitions defined for the top design partitions are pushed down the hierarchy.

Edit scope concurrent hierarchical editing

  • Concurrent editing is possible in each design partition view irrespective of where the hierarchical level edits are done, whether it is the top design partition view or the hierarchical design partition view.
  • When you merge an edited design partition view with the top design, all changes made across the design partition hierarchy are merged with the top design.
