Virtuosity: What if I Want to Disable the Filtered Corners?

29 Mar 2018 • 4 minute read

You'll now be an expert at using the Corner Filters in Virtuoso® ADE Assembler and Virtuoso® ADE Explorer, I'm sure. But so far, you could only enable the corners you found during filtering. Now, we can offer even more flexibility. You can now disable the corners you find using the filters, and also incrementally enable or disable the filtered corners.

The Enable or Disable filtered corners icon in the Corners Setup form has a drop-down that allows you to control what is enabled or disabled. You can choose Enable Visible, Disable Hidden, which is the current behavior and the default. You can also enable visible corners and leave the other corners as they were. You can disable the corners you find and enable all the others, or disable the ones you find and leave the other corners as they were. This should offer plenty of flexibility...

Enable Visible, Disable Hidden

The original behavior that has been around since IC6.1.7 ISR10 allowed you to find a set of corners using the filters and when you clicked Enable filtered corners and clicked Apply or OK, the Data View assistant would update to enable only those corners you had found.

You can see the original behavior in action below. Notice, that when the corners C0 and C3 are found, and Enable Visible, Disable Hidden (we just renamed this option to make it clearer) is selected and the selections applied, the Data View assistant updates and turns ON C0 and C3 and turns the other corners OFF.

.

Disable Visible, Enable Hidden

The new, Disable Visible, Enable Hidden option, on the other hand, can disable any corners you find with the filters and enable all the others. Watch the Data View assistant below to see corners C0 and C7 turning off, and all the other corners that were originally disabled, now enabled.

.

If you want the status of your existing corners to be unaffected by filtering and you only want to enable or disable new corners based on what you find when filtering, then you can use the options Enable Visible (Retain Status of Hidden Corners) and Disable Visible (Retain Status of Hidden Corners).

Enable Visible (Retain Status of Hidden Corners)

Now, let's consider another example. Let's assume the Data View assistant shows the following corners initially set to to ON: C0, C2, C6 and C7. Now, let us use the filters to find corners C2 and C4 and then select the Enable Visible (Retain Status of Hidden Corners) option. When you apply the selections, you can see that the Data View assistant updates to display C2 retained ON, C4 turned ON as well, and the other corners left as they were..

.

Disable Visible (Retain Status of Hidden Corners)

Finally, if we use the Disable Visible (Retain Status of Hidden Corners) option in the example below, you can see that the Data View assistant has the following corners initially set to ON: C0, C2, C3, C4, and C6. Now, let us find corners C2 and C4 using the filters and select the Disable Visible (Retain Status of Hidden Corners) option. The Data View assistant shows that corners C2 and C4 are turned OFF and the other corners stay as they were, as in the previous example.

Summary

Here's a table summarizing the options.

Option What happens to corners found during filtering What happens to other corners
Enable Visible, Disable Hidden Enabled Disabled
Disable Visible, Enable Hidden Disabled Enabled
Enable Visible (Retain Status of Hidden Corners) Enabled No Change
Disable Visible (Retain Status of Hidden Corners) Disabled No Change
