Virtuoso Studio: Organize Your Designs Better with Navigator Queries

28 Sep 2023 • 2 minute read

Our new AI-powered custom design solution, Virtuoso Studio, leverages our 30 years of industry knowledge and leadership, providing innovative features, reimagined infrastructure for unrivaled productivity, and new levels of integration that stretch beyond classic design boundaries. In this blog series, learn how the best analog design tools just got better to help you keep pace with your challenging design issues.

In your Virtuoso Studio schematic or layout design, have you ever wanted to:

See only a group of nets that have a common set of attributes?

Focus only on a part of your design?

Well, if those items are on your Virtuoso Studio wish list, Navigator queries are here to help!

Navigator query benefits: group objects into sets, create query by defining conditions, customize with SKILL

Group Objects into Sets

With Navigator queries, you can group objects into sets that meet specific conditions, and you are guaranteed to see only objects of interest. You can use this feature in several ways to bolster your workflow. If you know the exact objects you want to keep together, select them in the canvas and hit + in the Navigator assistant. This creates a set, and when you click that set, only the objects you included in it are shown.

Create Query by Defining Conditions

If you are interested in a specific type of object, you can create a query by defining a set of conditions. This keeps the objects together and lets you build a dynamic collection. You can add or remove conditions as you like. For example, you can filter for Supply nets whose Signal equals both power and group.

Customize with SKILL

If the built-in attributes do not match what you really want, you can further customize the attribute by defining Cadence SKILL predicates. This lets you fine-tune your selections any way you please. Just add a SKILL function name as the custom data source, and off you go.

It’s easy to see how much sets and queries can help in your layout and schematic editing tasks. Make sure to give them a go!
