Library Characterization Tidbits: Liberate MX for Memory Characterization Video Series

10 Feb 2020 • 3 minute read

Library Characterization Tidbits

A new year, a new beginning, and an array of new resolutions… some to be kept and a few to be broken not necessarily because those were unrealistic or you lost interest, but because the influencing factors or demand changed. Hope 2020 treats you well and strengthens your achievements further.

Hello readers,

As we embark upon our blogging journey again in 2020, in this Library Characterization Tidbits series, we want to draw your attention to an informative video series on memory characterization, which is available on the Cadence support portal. The videos in this series explain and demonstrate the characterization of memory instances for timing, power, and noise using the LiberateTM MX Memory Characterization flows including Standard Custom, Full Custom, Compiler Characterization and Validation. These videos also demonstrate the analysis and debug of full custom top-level and partition outputs.

A quick summary of what the videos have for you:

  • Liberate MX Standard Custom Flow
Watch this video to know more about how to examine the input files and run define_memory for the Liberate MX standard custom flow. The video also shows how to examine the output files including the .lib file created for the instance.
  • Outputs of the define_memory Flow
In this video, you can see how to go about reviewing the Liberate MX setup directory and the files created from the define_memory instance.
  • The Liberate MX Full Custom Flow
This one takes you through the setup of the full custom flow and its run. This flow is typically used for complex instances that do not fit the criteria of define_memory.
  • Liberate MX Validation Flow
This video demonstrates the review of the files that are needed to run the validation. The video also shows how the results can be reviewed to see if the instance passes the validation check and examines the waveform files created for each of the runs.
  • Debug Full Custom Top-Level
Watch this video to understand what was done in the characterization run by reviewing the Liberate MX-generated files, such as the info and constraint files. You can also see here how the waveform results are reviewed.
  • Debug Full Custom Partition
This is the last video in the series that demonstrates debugging of the partition that Liberate MX created, shows how you can examine the info files, and reviews the waveform files.
