self propulsion using actuator disk

Hello,

we are trying to do self propulsion analysis using actuator disk but we don't have any open water data to include , actually in demo case 8 of numeca the case file has done with actuator disk only but they used open water data for running the case.

can you explain how to run the self propulsion with AD.

Thank you.

    Hi,

I suggest that you spend time reading the chapter: "FineTm Marine > User Guide > Actuator Disk > Global Parameters", since it explains all the approaches.
Actually, open water data are optional, it is always better if available but not necessary. Hence, the Body force update should be done based on the ship's drag (called "Body drag" in the GUI) and the rest will follow. The number of required parameters is less important than open water data.

    Best regards,

    Benoit

    Hello,

Thank you for the info, then after keeping body drag to it should we on self propulsion dynamic library for actuator disk for self propulsion analysis.

Hi, I am not sure I understand your last post. Was it a question?
The dynamic library is not required unless you want to impose the Thrust Horsepower (THP) and compute the ship advancing speed. We have described the information in: FineTm Marine > User Guide > Self-propulsion > Introduction. you can follow the recommendations and the self-propulsion library will be launched automatically for the simulation.

    Best regards
