Renaming pin numbers is as simple as editing the number (edit->text) (just make sure the pin number is visible)Adding a pin is Layout->Pin and then walk through the options tab. If it's an electrical connection in the schematic then choose connect. If it's a non-electrical pin then choose mechanical.
You can also just copy an existing pin and rename its pin number afterwards. Very flexible.

Thanks for your response. To be honest I was looking for properties table etc. - over complicating!
The new pin shows up, but its text (pin number) is really big and shows up far away from the symbol. Why I can't just drag it to the right place and right click to select edit -> font I don't know!?!?

Hello Nigel and many thanks for your answer! I could never have guessed that was the way to do this.
Still, I can't figure out how to move the text closer to the pin (pad). Do you know how to do this as well?
Trust me i know what its like!!
just go to your FIND tab to the right. Turn "All Off" then select Text. Now move to main screen and just select Ref Des on screen - now right click and here you will find MOVE or even Rotate.
note: Make sure Ref Des is turned on. ie goto manu bar and Display/ColorVisibility and under tree view on left goto Components and turn on RefDes - Silkscreen_Top.
There ya go,
Thanks for the help Nigel!
My design looks much nicer now.
Good to know for other users is that you have to be in "general edit" mode when performing the above.
hello Nigel. My brain boiling. Four days ago i made footprint of big BGA's with 990 pins. It was hard... Newer i had work so hard.
But all was ok (i can reduce pin number, move rotate with "Designe parameters") But NOW (I start create new footrint with 229 pins) I CAN NOT call window of designe parameters tool. It happed nothhing while i click on it!
HELP! or i'll be crazy soon with this program.
In reply to killyourself:
I don't exactly know what process you are using, but you should be able to create as BGA footprint of any number of pins in less than 2 minutes if you use the footprint wizard.
I've seen the responses regarding changes to the pin numbers, but what happens if I have deleted a pin number? How do I get it back?
In reply to Convoluted:
You can add the pin number back by using Add > Text as follows: (Symbol Editor - .dra)
1) Add > Text2) Under the Options tab change to Class Package Geometry and Subclass to Pin_Number3) Select the Pin that requires a pin number assignment4) Select location for the Pin number text and enter the pin number
If you have a lot of pins that need the pin number added back in it may be easier to re-add the pins again.
If you accidentally deleted the text on Package Geometry / Pin_Number in the layout (.brd) the pin will still remember its pin number. If you want to get them back graphically just refresh the symbol using Place > Update Symbols..
Hope this helps,Mike Catrambone
