Varying the temperature in a transient simulation

Hi All,

 

I'd like to vary the temperature during a transient temperature...

Of course I know that I can set the temperature before simulating or I can do a parametric simulation.

But what I want to do is to use a block or ??? that could change the temperature with time.

    Try using the "param" parameter to the transient analysis. This will allow you to change various parameters during the transient analysis. I think that you will need MMSIM7.0 or above. There are other parameter for specifing time,value pairs of the parameter(s) being varied. If you look at "spectre -h tran" under the section "Dynamic Parameters", you will see all the relevant parameters.

    Does anyone know of a good doc with screen captures of dialogs that explains how to do this? The spectre -h tran is not very helpful. It talks about isnoisy. It would help to know how to vary temperature, if that is at all possible. If someone can create a doc and post that somewhere, that would be super. Is the simulator limited to one dynamic parameter or can one have many of them? Also, the spectre -h tran mentions subcircut and device "for the model/instance parameter given in param=name." What does this mean?

    Anyway, I have some slides on this, but I shouldn't post them to a public forum (they don't have screen shots anyway).

    I can illustrate it with some spectre syntax examples, and then it's fairly obvious how to do this from the UI.

    To vary temperature, specify the parameter name as "temp" and then you can enter your time-value pairs.

    To vary more than one parameter, create an include file with syntax such as this:

    pset1 paramset {
      time reltol temp p1 m1:l
      0n 1e-3 27 1 1u
      10n 1e-3 50 2 1u
      20n 1e-4 50 2 2u
      30n 1e-5 75 3 2u
    }

    Reference this file via Setup->Model Libraries.

    Then on the GUI, go to the Options form on the transient analysis form, and at the bottom where it says additional parameters, enter
    paramset=pset1

    The above table will vary the reltol, temperature, a parameter called p1, and the length of transistor instance m1.

    There is no direct GUI support for the param_step option (as outlined in "spectre -h tran"). If  you want that, you'll need to enter it via the Additional Parameters field on the transient Options form.

    By the way, if you look further down in the "spectre -h tran" to the section "Dynamic Parameters during Transient Analysis), it gives an example of changing temperature during simulation. It doesn't just give an example using isnoisy.

    Hi,

      I had same question a tripped across this thread.  I also found that IC6.14.5xxx has Dynamic Parameter option in ADE tran analysis that directly allows changing "temp" during transient.

    Thanks Jeremy for this useful information,

    It is also possible to use it with corners in ADE_XL. For example, I have started the simulations at fixed ambient temperature and then I have used a variable to check circuit's behavior for miscellaneous temperatures after a startup compensation sequence.

    Hi 

    I know we can change temperature in one single transient simulation by using the Dynamic Parameter and put "Parameter Name" as temp.

    There are two options there: One for Parameter Vector (that we can input the time step and temperature) and I am fine with option.

    Another option is to include a parameter file. But I don't know the format for the parameter file. Could anyone show me some examples for this? If you could show me two examples: one for temperature and one for a general parameter (say for voltage levels for a DC source, etc), that would be great.
