6.1 Custom side wide workspace?

Bernd
Bernd over 16 years ago

Hi there,

IC 6.1 comes with the new UI and the workspaces methodology.
I would like to know if it is possible to define a default common
side or project wide workspace (per tool) for a group of users.
And if yes, how to do that, and where to store it.

I read about a '.workspace' file in
'your_install_dir/share/cdssetup/dfII/workspaces/appDirs'
and saw a '.cadence' directory in my working or $HOME
directory.

But is there any recommend way to define a common custom
workspace for a group of users?

Thanks for your inputs,
 Bernd

Thanks, Bernd, for asking a question I have to look up. It is a multi step process for setting up the workspace and the default workspace for an application.

First, make a local/dfII/workspaces directory in your cds_installation/share directory. The path is defined in the setup.loc file.

Next, set up your workspace as you want it. Save the workspace using the save button. Unfortunately it does not allow you to specify right place to put it. (CCR being filed)

Move the Layout directory from where it was created to the local workspaces directory.

When you restart Virtuoso, it will be available.

To make it the default, use the <Window><Workspaces> Set Default...menu and set the user default for the application. That creates a workspace.default file in the user .cadence directory. It contains the name of the default workspace.

Create a similiar file in the local shared workspace as defined above (put it in Layout for layout).
