IC613 crash issue

Hi,

I am using IC613 to create a layout and every time I try to create an instance, it says - "LE-107016 Cannot create a recursive instance placement" even though its not recursive - I created a new library and new cell view. I then click "OK" and continue to create my instance, but as soon as I place the instance, IC crashes. It does not say anything about it being a segmentation fault or anything. It creates a panic log though. I am using the latest version of OA too. This problem is there even if I try to create instance in an already existing library - the only difference being - it does not say anything about creating recursive instance. It just crashes when I place the instance.

Any suggestions on why this happens and any possible solutions will be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

 Raj.

Are you sure you're not placing an instance within itself? The only reports I've ever seen of this have been when people try to place an instance of libA/cellA/viewA into libA/cellA/viewA.

Even when I try that in 6.1.3.500.12b (the latest ISR), it doesn't crash - just doesn't let me do it.

So if you're really still seeing this, you should contact Cadence customer support.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

Raj, what do you mean by 'using the latest version of OA too'?

From what I read in the 6.1.3.500.12b release notes, the reasons behind the 'b' variant were some serious OA kit related bugs. If you're not already, I highly recommend sticking to the OA version that ships with the tools and is used implicitly. Avoid setting OA_HOME manually so the 'virtuoso' launch scripts use the known-stable version linked to by way of your installation's .../share/oa link.

    Andrew.
