Saving states/spec summary with ADE-XL

Hi All,

I am new to ADE-XL and although I find several useful features, there are also some irritating things.

I would like to know how I can save the spec limits which I have defined. It seems that these are saved neither in the ADE-XL view,

nor in any of the simulation states. There is a "spec summary" but although I can create this, I am never able to load it again.

So I am effectively forced to define the spec limits each time, a pointless exercise if one happens to have dozens of spec definitions.

Any tips?

    Hi Vivek,

Huh? The specs are saved in the adexl view. They're also saved if you save setup states within the ADE XL view (although you don't need to do this - this is just if you want to record multiple setups and switch back and forth between them).

As far as I recall, this has always been the case, even in early IC610 versions.

Which subversion are  you using? (Help->About in the CIW will tell you).

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

I've got IC6.1.3.500.14.  I cannot save the specs no matter what I do. I even have states set up for saving different things but even that does not seem to help much.

    Regards,
    Vivek

    Hi Vivek,

So you're filling in the spec limits in the outputs pane, and then hitting the Save button in the ADE XL window? And then closing ADE XL, reopening the view, and the spec limits have gone? Also running a simulation would cause them to be saved.

If so, you need to contact Cadence Customer Support. I've never seen this behaviour - it sounds very strange indeed!

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

Yes! that's precisely the problem. I will see how I can get hold of someone from Cadence Customer Support. Our internal procedure for doing that is reportedly a bit long-winded. I was hoping that it was some simple error on my part which could be easily fixed. Anyway, let's see what support has to say.

    Regards,

    Vivek

    Hi Vivek,

A couple more possibilities. Is the ADE XL view opening readonly (look at the banner of the ADE XL window, it will say "Reading" if it is)?

Are you using a Design Management tool (which could explain why it's read only)?

Otherwise, if it's in edit mode, we (via customer support, most likely) will need to see the data.sdb file from within the ADE XL view. That may give a clue as to what is wrong.

But a likely scenario is that it's read only - there will be a message in the CIW too. Changes to the specs are then allowed, but won't be saved.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

Unfortunately, that is not the case. I am opening the ADE-XL view in the edit mode but unable to save the specs. If I were to open the cellview in read mode, then it would be obvious of course as it is then the save buttons are disabled, and one only has the choice of saving the changes to another cellview, e.g. adexl_1.

    Regards,

    Vivek

    Hi Vivek,

I thought  you'd have spotted if it was readonly. Still, worth asking - sometimes the obvious things get overlooked by all of us!

So I think you'll need to contact customer support, so it can be debugged looking at your data.

    Best Regards,

    Andrew.
