Point to point RC extraction

 Hi,

I wanted to do RC extraction from point to point. Say i have a point A and point B in the layout on the same net. I wanted to find the res value for that.. Pls give me some inputs..

I know that RCX tool will give me all the parasitics, but point to point is not possible in that..

Thanks,

Bharath.

    Hi Bharath,

Are you asking for extraction between 2 points? [*1]  or extracting for the specific net, and then reporting RC values between 2 points. Of course the reporting is very much possible, you can insert probe points on a net - by having additional texting on the Layout - however you have to extract the whole net.

I think you are looking for parasitic backannotation and reporting parasitic from point to point on a particular net.

Create an av_extracted view, make sure the specific net is extracted for parasitics.

    Open the av_extracted view

Click [ Menu ]  Tools -> parasitics, this will create a new Menu header named "Pararitics"

Click [ Menu ] Parasitics ->  Setup, ==> a form will popup, establish cross reference with the appropriate schematic cellView.

Next - click on [ Menu ] -> Parasitics -> Report Parasitics.. --> Terminal to Terminal..

Select the terminals on the same net over apropriate points.[*2] - Report will pop-up showing what you are looking for.

[*1  - and that means no RC extraction beyond those 2 points in a net, no R might be OK, however no C extraction beyond those points taken place, will such report be useful?, what kind of analysis? ]

[*2 - two terminals must be distinct, that means on a different fracture in RCX terminology, hence for accuracy, have smaller fracture & smaller minR, also make sure no mFactorR phenomena is shorting these presistors, sitting on an interconnect that connects multiple terminals of a set of a single multifingered / m-factored device ]

    Thanks,

    Satya

    Hi Satya,

Thank you for the information. I was struggling to calculate Point to point resistance with lot of methods like "Quantus P2PR", "Voltus P2PR" etc, because i had around 10K point list that i want to calculate resistance in between.

This method really helped me to get my desire outputs and it is accurate, also it doesn't need QRC_XL or Voltus licenses.

I only thing i am worried about is if this method has any drawback for P2P R calculation. Couple of word about how this is different from Quantus P2PR or Voltus P2PR in terms of output will be very much helpfull.

    Regards,

    Amar
