Abstract Generator

 Hi,

I am using IC 5.1.41  which uses Abstract generator ver 5.10.41. I am using abstract for the very first time for generating LEF files of my design and read through the documentation several times but I am not getting on to it. I want to run abstract from CIW under the tools menu but its not desplying while it runs independently but thats too difficult for me to get results in alotted time.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Affaq

I would suggest that you go through the short tutorial located at:

    $CDSHOME/tools/dfII/samples/tutorials/abstract

It can be completed in about 30mins. The tutorial manual is located at $CDSHOME/doc/abstract.pdf. It will give you a fairly good idea on how to use the abstract generator.

I don't quite understand the point about being too difficult to get results in the allocated time. Perhaps you would like to elaborate more on this so that we can understand the the actual problem that you are facing. Do you mean that you have problem starting up the abstract generator from the cmd line or ... ? : )

    Best regards
    Quek

    Hi Affaq,

for a first time user I would advise to go carefully through the tutorial which is provided

with the software. The description is in the abstract user guide:

    <Your-IC-Install_Dir>/doc/abstract/abstract.pdf

    and the sample database in:

    <Your-IC-Install_Dir>/tools.sun4v/dfII/samples/tutorials/abstract

After finishing that you can ask more detailed questions.  The PDK you use has

    to be prepared for abstract.

    Regards,

    Marc

     Hello Quek,

I have read those tutorials but still I am unable to get hold of using abstract generator in stansalone environment. By allocated time, I meant that I have a paper submission deadline by the end of this month and I can't spent too much time on learning how to use abstract generator in standalone. So is there any way of running it from CIW under the tools menu as the docementation says? It makes lot easier to use in that way but I cant find abstract generator option under tool menu.

    Regards,

    Affaq

    hello Affaq,

Have you tried to run 'abstract' form the terminal from which you run 'icfb' ?

     Thanks,

    Alex

Yes, and it runs but there I have to assign lot of parameter which I can't understand fully so if there is any way of using abstract generator from the virtuoso environment (which currently, is missing), that would make life much easier.

    Thanks,

    Hi Affaq,

In 5.141 teh best you can have is teh Launch -> Asbstract Editor then click on 'Abstract' menu and choose Generate Abstract you need complete a form then click on Run and it will bring teh Abstract Generator and you still need to complete all teh different form for the abstrcat generation.

What type of info should you abstract contain ?

What tool is supposed to read it ?

What is the purpose of this abstract ?

    thanks,

    Alex
