Cadence 6.1 problem

 Dear all,

I know this might seem weird but it does happen to me..

I'm using cadence virtuso 6.1 for analog simulation. Sometimes I need the simulation to keep runing for the whole night, however, as soon as I leave it for some times, it just stops !!!, if return to my machine and start doing any activity, then it continues to work...It seems as ifthe tool monitors my activit, and when I'm idle it stops !!!

Can this really happen ? and how to solve it ? sometimes I need to leave the simulator to run over the weekend but I simply can't do it...

Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advacne.

    Hi Ayman

Would you please provide the following info?

    terminal>virtuoso -W
    terminal>spectre -W
(I assume that you are using spectre for simulation)

Are there any errors/warnings in the ciw or simulator log when it stops?

    Best regards
    Quek

Hello Quek, Thanks for your reply

I'm using IC6.1.3.500.16 and spectre  5.10.41.Concerning the errors, no I dont get any... the simulation just stops running at some point, and then continues to run again.

I have an idea that might work: instead of using the ADE-L, maybe if I use the ADE-XL this issue will be resolved. I'll give it a try and update.

    Hi Ayman

I would suggest that instead of trying ADE-XL, it might be better to simply install IC614-501 and MMSIM720-194 and retry ADE-L. Spectre5141 is extremely out-dated, we should use spectre from MMSIM package. IC614 has more features than IC613 so it is better to use it. This problem is quite strange and for strange problems, my first recommendation is to do a version upgrade. : )

    Best regards
    Quek

One thought - is this a "power saving" mode problem. Perhaps you have your workstation set to hibernate when it thinks it is inactive, and when you return to it, it wakes up again?

I entirely agree with Quek - using IC5141 spectre makes absolutely no sense. You're using a fairly up to date environment (IC613) with a 6 year old simulator version. That's the opposite of how most people work. I doubt that's the problem, but it's not a sensible (or supported) use model.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
