Errors found in ADEXL running

 Hi All,

We use ic613 and MMSIM71 in linux. The Tran and AC analysis will be done with ADEXL,

After starting Virtuoso, then ADEXL was launched, setting the Trans and AC analysis and then running single ,sweeps, corner by clicking the run button.
ADEXL ran and generated the results.

Without doing any changes. We tried to run the single ,sweeps, corner simulation again by clicking the run button. the following error occurs

Finished loading AHDL component in 0 s (elapsed).
Installed AHDL simulation interface.
Created directory input.ahdlSimDB/ (775)
Created directory input.ahdlSimDB/bsource_1.input.ahdlcmi/ (775)
Created directory input.ahdlSimDB/bsource_1.input.ahdlcmi/Linux2.6.9-89.ELsmp+gcc/ (775)
Compiling ahdlcmi module library.

Error found by spectre during AHDL read-in.
ERROR (VACOMP-1008): Cannot compile ahdlcmi module library. Check the log file input.ahdlSimDB/bsource_1.input.ahdlcmi/Linux2.6.9-89.ELsmp+gcc/
for details. If the compiler ran out of memory, use 'setenv CDS_CMI_COMPLEVEL 0', and try again. If the reason for the failure was a syntax error,

spectre terminated prematurely due to fatal error.

If we restart the Virtuoso and then run the single ,sweeps, corner simulation, ADEXL ran and generated the results. But when we tried run this simulation
again. The about errors appears again.

In ADE L, We can do the same  Tran and AC analysis a lot of times without errors.

Can someone help me to fix this ADEXL erros? I guess there are some environmental variables need to be set.

Regards,
Southwave

    Hi Southwave

If you check the "ahdlcmi.out" file at /your-path/simulation/cellName/spectre/schematic/netlist/input.ahdlSimDB/bsource_1.input.ahdlcmi, are there any info on the errors? It might also be good for you to give MMSIM720-194 a try to see if it is a bug that has already been fixed.

Sometimes ahdl errors are due to missing library files and can be resolved by installing the full suite of gcc rpms but it is quite strange for your case since you mentioned that it usually works the first time.

    Best regards
    Quek

You might find that this is a permissions issue - if you can get write access to the analogLib directory and then run the simulation, it might work. This would only need to be done the once I think.

    Cheers,

    Roger,

You absolutely do not require write permission to analogLib for this issue. It's most likely to be a missing shared library, or something like that, as Quek suggested.

    Andrew.

make sure you have glibc-devel, kernel-devel and kernel-headers installed.

To the error case, After checking /input.ahdlSimDB/bsource_1.input.ahdlcmi ,I could not find "ahdlcmi.out" file.

But for the successful case(first run) , there does exist the  "ahdlcmi.out" file.

I found the library files and  gcc file exist in the corresponding directory of MMSIM71. I think maybe there are some mistakes in setting the ADE XL environmental variables.

    Southwave

if missing shared library, missing gcc files or something like that.

    How do verify them?

The point is that when running the simulation at the second time, error occurs.

    rpm -qa | grep glibc.

do the same for libstdc++, kernel-devel and kernel-headers. make sure they're all installed

     Andrew,

Fair enough, I'm only relaying my experience of a very similar situation but it's entirely possible what we observed was incorrect.

    Cheers,

    Roger

    Roger,

I can imagine something like this if you were using AMS Designer -  from the hierarchy editor. Even then, it's not necessary to have write access to analogLib (you can use ASSIGN TMP to handle this).

Southwave - what you describe sounds strange that it does it on different runs. I would suggest you contact Cadence Customer Support so that it can be investigated properly.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
