About schematic Plot

Hi, I meet a new problem recently when I want to plot schematic to pdf. 

My .cdspolotinit file is shown below, I choose PDF_1000dpi as my plotter

After I use design-->plot-->submit to plot schematic I can get a pdf,but its size is 0kB. Why?

  • I tried your .cdsplotinit and did not end up with a 0 byte file. However, I did have to add a dollar sign in front of the braces:

    plot_${cellName}.pdf

    Secondly, cellName is not an environment variable in my setup, so I ended up with $plot_.pdf for a file name, but it worked.

    If I were you, I'd debug this one step at a time. If you remove your spool line from the .cdsplotinit and plot again, Cadence will create a postscript file for you. Look in your CIW to see where the file was created. If the postscript file is 0 bytes, then you may have your plot settings such that no data is getting printed. If you do have a post script file, then run ps2pdf13 on it and see if the pdf is any good. If not, then ps2pdf13 has problems. This command should exist in your path. In fact, I just tried changing the name of ps2pdf13 in the .cdsplotinit to a bogus name and I got a 0 byte file. Thus, your problem is most likely that ps2pdf13 does not exist in your path anywhere. This does not come with Cadence, it is something you need to download and install.

    It seems that postscript is right, but plot is 0kB.
    Now I only can use this method to plot schematic:
    In plot option, I select "Send Plot only to file",and then in unix use command "ps2pdf" to convert the postsricpt to pdf.
    I firstly think perhaps in cdsplotinit file it shoud use ps2pdf instead ps2pdf13
    However, it also doens't work.

  • It wasn't clear to me whether you tried my suggestion of removing the spool line. What happens when you remove the spool line? Does a 0KB file get created?

    The ps2pdf program is a Unix postscript distiller. The one we have installed at our site has various versions:
    ps2pdf, ps2pdf12, psdpdf13, ps2pdf14, ps2pdfwr

    You need to setup your cdsplotinit file to use what you have installed. That functionality is not provided by Cadence. I think you must have grabbed those .cdsplotinit settings of this Community forum somewhere. Whatever you put in that spool line needs to exist in your path. Maybe you need to replace ps2pdf with the full path to ps2pdf in case your path setting in Cadence is not including the path to that script.
