doubts in layout devices

 hi all

1) what is the difference between fingers and multipliers

2)why via should be square shape. Any layer can draw in any length & width. But why via should be in fixed length &width.

3) iam on Dongbuprocess, I saw a  MIM Capacitor which is madeup of metals MET2,MET3,MET4. In this +ve terminal is MET4 & -ve terminal is MET2. It consists of via2,via3,via4. I feel Due to these via's all metal layers are shorted(+ve &-ve terminals are shorted.) & how it works as capacitor.

Thank you

    Hi venu

    1. The difference is in the device placement. As an example, schematic parameter fingers=2 means that the layout devices should be abutted. For most pdks, the mos pcell layout would automatically be created with 2 gates if fingers are set to 2. Multiplier=2 means that the devices should be separated in the layout. This means 2 independent mos devices which are joined by interconnects.

    2. A via need not be always a square. They can be rectangular vias too. Modern EDA tools should be able to calculate the equivalent number of cuts from the via area.

    3. Perhaps it might be good to refer to Dongbu pdk documents for a description of the mimcap. It would also be good to consult Dongbu customer support on this.

    Best regards
    Quek
