cadence IC 6.14 license issue

hi all, I am new to this forum.

I have properly installed Cadence IC 6.14 but I can't figure out how to set the license to work properly.

The license server is on a remote machine, and i have no license.dat files.

I think i should only set CDS_LIC_FILE to 5280@servername, but it doesn't work at all.

Which is the right procedure? Should i do something different?
I copied .cshrc, .cdsinit and .cdsenv to my home directory and edited with my path and with CDS_LIC_FILE, CDS_AUTO_64BIT, CDS_LIC_ONLY variables.

Thank you!

Exactly what you need to set CDS_LIC_FILE to would depend on the port that was used on your license server, and also the hostname.

    Can you try doing:

    lmstat -a -c 5280@licserverhostname

and see if that's returning anything? If it is, you can set $CDS_LIC_FILE to the same thing:

    setenv CDS_LIC_FILE 5280@licserverhostname

or if using bash/ksh rather than csh, it would be:

    export CDS_LIC_FILE=5280@licserverhostname

If lmstat doesn't return anything, you'll need to log onto the license server and check that the license daemon is actually running, and so on.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    i've tried: lmstat -a -c 5280@licserverhostname

    dedalo> lmstat -a -c 5280@xxx.xxx.xxx.xx
lmstat - Copyright (c) 1989-2007 Macrovision Europe Ltd. and/or Macrovision Corporation. All Rights Reserved.
Flexible License Manager status on Mon 12/5/2011 17:55

    License server status: 5280@giove
    License file(s) on giove: 5280@giove.iet.unipi.it:

lmgrd is not running: License server machine is down or not responding. (-96,7:2 "No such file or directory")
    dedalo>

the server name and port are right. i-ve checked. I've run the same command on an old machine, and it shows a correct output.

I figure out that there is some problem with my communication with the server. Am i right?

In this case I will contact the license server admin.

Maybe there's a port blocked, or a firewall in the way.

    Andrew.

thank you very much, i solved. My admin had to insert me in a list on the license server.
just to tell you, maybe it can be useful, if i do lmstat -c ...@... it doesn-t work, however the license can be found.

Another important question: i get the error when starting Library Manager:

    cdsServIpc: ipcISAliveProcess connection timeout

    and so on.
    I found this:
    /forums/p/12685/18368.aspx

It seems i have to add this string in my /etc/hosts file

    127.0.0.1               <machine_name> localhost.localdomain localhost

i only have to do this to solve?</machine_name>

It's quite possible that the problem will be fixed by that (you may not need the localhost.localdomain bit - I only have localhost in mine). Did you try it?

    Andrew.

    solved!

last question: i installed DFII package hotfix 6.1.4 and so on

i realized Spectre and other simulators are not there. Which version of MMSIM should i get? MMSIM 7.2 right?

MMSIM 11.1 is the latest version (the versions went 7.1, 7.2, 10.1, 11.1 - a jump between 7.2 and 10.1 to move to the year number scheme).

So unless you have a good reason to do otherwise, I'd use MMSIM11.1 . Be aware that MMSIM 11.1 has a minimum supported OS release of RHEL5.0 though.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
