Hello,

What package(s) have all necessary tools to effectuate the following tasks:

  1. Schematic Editor (NECESSARY)
  2. Digital simulation (NECESSARY)
  3. Digital synthesis (NECESSARY)
  4. Placement/routing (NECESSARY)
  5. Test vector generator (NECESSARY)
  6. Mixed-mode simulation (OPTIONAL)

The design kit is made for Cadence v.5.

Thanks in advance,

Pavel.

    Hi Quek

Thanks. Are RC and EDI both inside of SoC Encounter, or they persent separate packages ?

Is mmsim (7.1 , 10.1) just replacement for INCISIVE, or it's completely different package ?

    Regards,

    Pavel.

    Hi Pavel

RC is a separate package from EDI. MMSIM is not a replacement for INCISIVE. It is a completely different package.

    Hi Quek,

    Thanks for response.

Is RC is only package for synthesis ? What tasks covers SoC Encounter ?

Is INCISIVE is only package for digital/mixed-mode simulation. As I've heard mmsim also includes simulators.

    Regards.

    Pavel.

    Hi Pavel

Yes, RC is the only package for synthesis. EDI is for digital place and route. INCISIVE is the only package for digital/mixed-mode simulatoin. MMSIM is for analog simulation.

    Hi Quek,

Thanks. Clear. Only one point - I've seen a lot of pests, where IC5141 is installed together with mmsim 7.1.

According to you mmsim is only for analog simulations. But IC5141 includes already Spectre.

What sense to have 2 analog simulators ?

    Regards,

    Pavel.

    Hi Pavel

Spectre in IC5141 is already obsoleted. Only spectre in MMSIM should be used.

Thanks Quek. In order to have full clarity could you, please, clarify 2 points:

    1. Besides Spectre what else tools includes mmsim

    2. What tasks cover SoC Encounter

    Regards.

    Pavel.

    Quek said:
Spectre in IC5141 is already obsoleted

It means when one instals new USR (3,4,5,6 which one), the Spectre in basic package is simply suppressed ?

Or user must configure which version of Spectre must be used - from IC5141(Basic) or from mmsim ?

    Regards.

    Pavel.

    Hi Pavel

You have to ensure that the path for MMSIM comes before IC5141 in your .cshrc file so that MMSIM spectre and not IC5141 spectre will be used. MMSIM also contains ultrasim fastspice simulator. EDI package is needed for standard cell placement and routing.

You can also refer to www.cadence.com for more detail on the packages. : )
