MMSIM11, simulates but now does not plot

I have no idea what is going on with this toolkit recently,the strange thing is sometimes it works and sometimes no, particularly simulation.

I simulate using ADE XL, then in the status window it says Finished, and i see that it wants to plot results (in fact it does open the plot, but the plot is closed very quickly).

I look in the log of CIW and see:

That licesne switching was weird to me, i dont understand why it tries _L, because i am using ADE XL anyway, and after that i check the ade_viva.log file and here is what it has:

OpenGL pipeline enabled for default config on screen 0
DEBUG SkillExprHandler ... trace listening on

And again, sometimes it works out (lets say when i create the cell simulation ADE XL files from scratch) and sometimes it doesnt after several simulations. Anyway, if it says Finished it means that it could check out the license for simulation.

And here are some more details to the problem:

I have another library, same thing same technology, just different design files, using ADE XL with them, it works!

Now, right after i simulated elements from another library and it plotted result, i come back to my current library which simulated but did not plot, and now it works... after several simulations same stuff goes on.

Any idea what could that be?

I tried MMSIM10, same thing! Here is some another kind of output when i get:

WARNING (ADEXL-2006): Cannot release license 'Analog_Design_Environment_XL'.

Contact Cadence Customer Support to report the problem.

ERROR (WIA-1119): Plotting of data failed. A possible reason may be that the Visualization & Analysis

Tool was killed. Refer to the log file '/media/cadence/ade_viva.log' for more information.

Aborted

And the strange thing is, that in another library within same tool i can simulate and see plots popping out normally, how come that be? I'm pretty sure that problem is not in licensing here, but then what?

Hi Kabal,

Have you contacted Cadence Customer Support like the message says?

When you do so, please provide the '/media/cadence/ade_viva.log' file.

There are a number of issues reported with this error message. Most of them are using older versions of IC tools.

It’s important to contact http://support.cadence.com with the log files requested (include the CDS.log file, too).

Also, you may want to run checkSysConf on your system to make sure that all of your patches are up to date (that is always

wise when you are having any crashes of any sort.)

no we havent contacted yet, but I have not changed anything with tools, the only thing we did is install MMSIM11, and in fact thats why i was thinking that maybe MMSIM11 does not get along with IC6.14,

But as i said in previous message, we have reverted back to original version of MMSIM10 (subversion too), and this thing is still going on. Also, our stuff was running and simulating with no problems for about 8-9 months on MMSIM10.

Thats why I was thinking maybe there is something else what could be accidentally messed up, and asking if someone got an idea?

Hi Kabal,
You are using IC6.1.4? That is pretty old. Most of the issues I see with that error message are from IC614 and previous releases.
So, first thing I recommend is getting on to IC6.1.5 latest ISR.
Honestly, it’s going to be fastest to contact http://support . With the logfiles, a Customer Support AE can quickly pinpoint the issue and
get R&D involved as necessary. (I know…I’m one of those Customer Support AEs.)

strange currenly Im using this workaround: open the simple inverter from a library in which simulation and plot goes well.
Then try to simulate stuff from another library, when similar problem repeats, i go and real quick simulate my inverter from first library, then i come back to this design simulate it and it pops up plots.

so no, i guess it has nothing to do with tools at all, I tried this stuff on machines where same tools were installed but no work was done there, and result was same, so something maybe within the library settings?

why it is ok on one lib and not on another?
