Creating a New PCELL from an existing Pcell and adding A new parameter to it

 Dear All,

I have a MOS pcell in my process. I want to create another pcell exactly same ( of-course  different pcell name so that I can use a different model file for it). Also I want to add a one/two parameter/s ( say "trise") to it which would be visible in the pcell form when I instantiate it.

Is there any simple and fast way of doing it. I don't want to create it from scratch as I don't know how tocreate a PCell though I am looking into the Pcell user Guide.

Kind Regards,

I don't think you're really talking about the pcell. A "PCell" is a Parameterized Cell - this is a generator which will build a view for you (typically layout, but also schematic and symbol pcells are possible), for which the content changes depending on the parameters passed to it.

What you want to do is add another parameter for simulation purposes. This doesn't require a generation of a new view - it just needs the CDF to be edited to support the new parameter and to get it to be netlisted.

So, I'd start by copying your existing MOS device to a new name, and then using Tools->CDF->Edit CDF in the CIW. Pick your new copy, tell it to edit the "Base" rather than "Effective" CDF, and add a new parameter called "trise". Set the type to be string, and set parseAsNumber and parseAsCEL to be "yes" - give it a sensible prompt too. Then in the Simulation Information tab section, you can edit the simulation information for (say) "spectre" and add "trise" to the instParameters section - this will tell it to netlist trise too.

OK all the forms, and you should be done.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

I have one query on above topic,

Let say if i have design available in schematic , in that schematic design I want to add a new parameter to particular cell. Now to put on master , but can be put on submaster cell only.

for example : I have schematic super cell, which consist of x,y,z 3 cells. but the real PDK libraries of x,y,z cells is "x_PDK". now i just want to add a new parameter to x cell which should only change in sub-master or design cell only not in PDK per se.

    Hi Sourabh,

I don't really understand your question - it's not very clear. Also, please read the Guidelines for the Custom IC Design Forum (you posted a probably quite different question on the end of a 9 year old thread, which the guidelines ask you not to do).
