Which noise does param 'sh' stand for in ADE noise summary?

Hi,

I am doing verification of an LDO and I am a beginner. I was doing Noise analysis using Cadence ADE and in the Noise summary printed, there is a param called 'sh' for the type of noise. I would like to know exactly which noise type does it refer to?

Requesting help from somebody who knows the answer.

    Hi Raveesh,

    I did not see the noise parameter "sh"  in the list of noise parameters when I ran a noise analysis. It may be a shot noise parameter whose abbreviation is truncated. Perhaps you are using a different version. I am using IC6.1.5.500.11. The abbreviations for the various noise parameters may be found at:

    Noise Summary Example

    For a MOS transistor, the individual noise contributors are fn, id, rs and rd.

    -fn is the flicker noise

    -id is the drain-source resistance thermal noise

    -rs is the source parasitic thermal noise

    -rd is the drain parasitic resistance thermal noise

     

    For Bipolar transistor, the noise contributors are in rb, ib, rc, ic, fn, re,

    and bn.

    -rb is the base resistance thermal noise

    -ib is the base current shot noise

    -rc is the collector resistor thermal noise

    -ic is the collector current shot noise

    -fn is the flicker noise

    -re is the emitter resistor thermal noise

    -bn is the burst noise

    -itfz is forward transport current

    -ibe(A) Intrinisic B-E Junction Current

    -kfn is B-E flicker noise constant

    -afn is the B-E flicker niose exponent

    -bfn is the B-E flicker noise dependence

     

    For VBIC,  (please also see Solution 11603018 )

    - fn is the flicker noise between the node bi and ei.
    - fnp is the flicker noise between the node bx and bp.
    - fnx is the flicker noise between the node bx and ei.

    Hi smlogan,

    Thanks a lot for the reply and the list of abbrevations. Yes even I am using Cadence 6.1.5 and I also was not able to find noise coressponding to parameter 'sh'. Just one more question isthat do these parameters differ based on the type of simulator used? I mean are they simulator specific?

    Also one more point to note is that this noise coressponds to a transistor. So I am not able to correlate this noise to shot noise even though abbrevation looks like its a short form for Shot noise.

    Reveesh,

    This will depend on the simulator (which simulator are you using?), and also the type of device (the model type) that is being used. For example, bsim4 has different parameters to a mos902 to a bjt and so on. I don't recall any noise parameter called "sh" though in any model - but if you can state the simulator and model type that is being used, we might be able to work it out.

    You can see the model type names used in your design on the Results->Print->Noise Summary form - it will list the types of components that you have to allow you to filter the results to only see the noise from certain types of device.
