Unable to attach technology library?

emax
emax over 12 years ago

I try to use Cadence gpdk045 but unable to attach the technology library to a newly created library with error:

The binary file 'tech.db' was not found in library 'gpdk045'

However the file is there in gpdk045 directory. I have installed the kit and created the cds.lib according to the instructions in reference manual. These are the steps I followed:

1) In .bashrc set the environment variables

export CDS_Netlisting_Mode=Analog

export CDSHOME=/home/eda/ic610

but I also have another variable:  export CDS_ROOT=/home/eda/ic610 and hope it does not create problem.

2) In the work directory I created a cds.lib file with following entry

INCLUDE /home/user/edasrc/cadence_pdk045/gpdk045_v_3_5/cds.lib

3) and finally created a link in the work directory

ln -s /home/user/edasrc/cadence_pdk045/gpdk045_v_3_5/models

Where is the problem and why I am unable to attach the technology library? In CIW it says Loaded gpdk045/libInit.il successfully!

    Maybe the permissions are incorrect?

However, if you're using IC610, I think the likely reason is that gpdk045 is built for a newer version of OA, and you can't open it in such an old version because it's not compatible in that direction.

    I don't have IC610 handy, but in IC611 (IC6.1.1.500.61), I get:

*WARNING* techGetObjTechFile: Tech database contains features defined in OpenAccess data model version 4 (release 22.04.001 or above), and cannot be opened by software that is built against OpenAccess release 2.2-p079 and supports data model version 3

It's quite possible that in IC610 it didn't give such a friendly message. So you really need to install something newer.

    Andrew.

I am having the same problem with gpdk090 and NCSU FreePDK45.

And it is not the problem of release version...

    http://bwrcs.eecs.berkeley.edu/Classes/icdesign/ee141_s08/Cadence_docs/docs/gpdk090_spec.pdf

this is meant to install for ic610 and oa2.2

Which version of gpdk090 are you using, and where did you download it from?

    Regards,

    Andrew.

It is version : 4.6, build date: 10-FEB-2011 and downloaded from Cadence website.

Also when I right click the newly created library, it does not show the option to attach a technology library and have to use CIW options to attach but it fails. Before the pop-up error message appears, the CIW shows successful initialization of PDK.

I have this problem with NCSU FreePDK45, gpdk090 and gpdk045 but the NCSU CDK works perfectly fine.

I am sure it is the setup problem but not sure where to look into.

Well, your previous post pointed at a document from an old version of gpdk090 (version 3.9) from 2007. The version you're using is much newer (version 4.6 from 2011). If you look at docs/gpdk090_pdk_referenceManual.pdf from within the 4.6 version of the PDK, it clearly says that this is built for IC615, not IC610.

IC610 was not using OA2.2 (it was an older version, 02.02 - the numbering scheme changed at some point - current versions are using 22.41). The major change happened between IC611 and IC612. Still, that's academic, since it says that gpdk090 v4.6 is for IC615.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Link to what?

Please read the forum guidelines (several of the bullets - posting on old threads, posting more than once for the same question) not providing a clear question, using instant messaging shorthand).
